St. Barnabas Catholic Church office is open the hours below during the Coronavirus pandemic:
Mondays: 9-12
Tuesdays: Office closed
Every other Wednesday: 9-1
Thursdays: Office closed
Fridays: 9-12
All of us are very familiar with the work of our St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP).
They help clients with utilities and other bills, food, and budget counseling. We all know how effective their Thursday Pantry Day has become. It serves many families in our area and Fred and pantry crew has honed their process to provide a very streamlined assembly line serving many families on Pantry days.
The Thursday Food Pantry is still happening, even as government regulations have been put into effect to ensure social distancing. The Pantry is considered an essential function for our community. Service is now offered via drive-up to allow for social distancing and safety for the Pantry workers.
Easter is the one holiday for which the Pantry still offers “Food baskets” to provide a nourishing holiday meal for families.
SVdP has always relied on us parishioners to help supply food and financial donations to make the Food Baskets possible. This year three St. Joseph’s Tables were placed in the social hall, and each was lovingly decorated by different families. The idea was to collect certain foods and financial donations for the upcoming Easter Food Baskets. Sadly, the coronavirus has resulted in very limited opportunities to donate as normal activities are effectively curtailed for the meantime and the social hall is not accessible.
At this point, the most effective way to help SVdP with the Easter Food Baskets and increased demand going forward is to make a monetary donation.
With a monetary donation, Fred and crew can go shopping at Manna, Aldi’s, and various grocery stores where they can get a great volume of food for much less than if we go buy food and bring it in, which we can’t do right now anyhow! Fred and his assistants make for a shopping tour de force, so this is the best bang for the buck, folks.

Please make checks payable to “St. Vincent de Paul”, and write “Food Pantry” in the memo line. The “Food Pantry” notation is very important, as without it the funds would go into the general use funds and not pantry funds.
We all received a letter from Father Adrian this past week about the church’s financial needs as well. The bills must still be paid. The staff is still working and must be paid. Sure, maybe we are consuming less paper goods, coffee and donuts, for example, but all our other obligations remain. We are asking for your regular church support to be mailed to the church as well. Make it a two-fer! You can put checks for the church and for SVdP in the same envelope. Please also consider online giving, as this is easiest way to give, and is truly contact free! Thank you for your help and generosity during this unprecedented time in history. Let us all pray for one another and for those in our community who are suffering greatly at this time.

Solo quiero comunicarme con ustedes y re-afirmar mi apoyo y oraciones durante estos tiempos extraños que enfrentamos. El no tener una misa pública u otros eventos litúrgicos ciertamente no tiene precedentes. Sin embargo, no perdamos la esperanza, no caigamos en la desesperación o seamos críticos severos de nuestro liderazgo o de los demás durante este desafío de coronavirus. Me duele no poder celebrar la misa con todos ustedes; sin embargo, a veces es necesario un sacrificio temporal por el bien de todos.

I just wanted to reach out to you and affirm my support and prayers during these extraordinary times that we are facing. Not having public Mass or other liturgical events is certainly unprecedented. Nevertheless, let us not lose hope, fall in despair or become severe critics of our leadership or each other during this challenge of coronavirus. It pains me not to be able to celebrate Mass with all of you; however, a temporary sacrifice for the good of all is sometimes necessary. At this time the main church is open for you to come and make a visit to our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. We may also find ways to practice our faith more at home with our loved ones. The beauty of our faith is the variety of ways that we can pray together through rosary, scripture, novenas, or (one of favorites) just sitting in a quiet space listening to a monastic chant in the background before an icon or holy picture. Certainly COVID-19 cannot squelch the power of the Holy Spirit, for the Spirit of God is everywhere!! Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit let us respond to this pandemic with goodness and love and not with fear and anxiety, two powerful tools of the devil. Help a neighbor in need, pray for others, delve into God's Word and wash your hands!!

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament remains in the church sanctuary. It will be open until 10 pm each day. This will allow for greater distance between Adorers. If you have an Adoration Code you can enter through the Chapel using your code and then proceed into the church.
The church will be open during office hours for you to go pray in the church if you wish. The wings will be locked to discourage travel down those hallways. Please use an abundance of caution during this time.
Confessions will be scheduled on a limited basis and are available via sign-up. Notices will be placed on our home page when sign-ups are available.

The Vatican has offered a Plenary Indulgence, ex auctoritate Summi Pontificis, for the faithful suffering from Coronavirus, who are subject to quarantine by order of health authority in hospitals or in their homes if, with a spirit detached from any sin, they unite spiritually through the media to the celebration of Mass, reciting the Holy Rosary, pious practice of the Way of the Cross, or other forms of devotion, or if at least they will recite the Creed, the Lord's Prayer and a pious invocation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, offering this trial in a spirit of faith in God and charity towards their brothers and sisters, with the will to fulfill the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer according to the Holy Father's intentions), as soon as possible.
Plenary Indulgence has been offered to health care workers, family members and all those who follow the example of the Good Samaritan, exposing themselves to the risk of contagion, care for the sick of Coronavirus according to the words of the divine Redeemer, "Greeter love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friend" (Jn. 15:13).
Plenary Indulgence is also granted to the faithful who offer a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, or Eucharistic adoration, or reading the Holy Scriptures for at least half an hour, or the recitation of the Holy Rosary, or the pious exercise of the Way of the Cross, or the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, to implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called Himself.
The Church prays for those who find themselves unable to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and of the Viaticum, entrusting each and every one to divine Mercy by virtue of the communion of saints and granting the faithful a Plenary Indulgence on the point of death, provided that they are duly disposed and have recited a few prayers during their lifetime (in this case the Church makes up for these usual conditions required). For the attainment of this indulgence the use of the crucifix or the cross is recommended (cf. Enchiridion indulgentiarum, no. 12).
